Scientists Discover a "Super Earth", Kepler-22b

Scientists discover a planet which has the most Earth-like condition ever.

The planet, called Kepler-22b is known to have a temperature of 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius) and is approximately 600 light years away from our planet which is located towards the constellations of Lyra and Cygnus. The planet is believed to have a radius of 2.4 times of Earth's radius. Kepler-22b's distance to the sun is believed to be 15% less than the distance from the Earth to the Sun, therefore orbits around it's sun every 290 days. As the Kepler-22b's sun is a G5 star, whilst our sun is a G2. As such, it has less luminosity than our sun.

Cleaning a PCP poster

So, this week in Bakuman chapter 145 we've had in page 18 (19 in the reader) a PCP poster to clean. That's good enough, but the poster was originally in color (that is, Obata had it already drawn in color, and he just placed it in this chapter). So, since that poster was grayscaled, it had less contrast than the rest of the manga... and our filters aren't fit to work with such low contrast.

You can see it's way too smooth, and he blacked out the darkest parts... It just was no good (even if it had passed the quality-checking...).

I took it onto myself to fix it, cleaning again just the poster from the raw, but it didn't look that good... Then Rue found a pic similar to this online:

It sure as hell didn't look fake. So after researching a bit, we found that the Bakuman character book (�Charaman�) had a reversible cover... and in the inside was the cover for the first volume of PCP. Then, we proceeded to find scans of the cover, which proved to be a harsh task that took two people (me and Rue) over half an hour. In the end, I found one scan (the quality wasn't too good, but passable for a poster). After leveling, I got this:

That was the actual size of the scan I got. Actually, as you can see, the edges of the �PCP� letters are quite jagged, which wouldn't be the case if the raw was bigger. But I couldn't do more than that, and it wasn't enough to be noticeable after resizing it to fit the page.

So I proceeded to fit it in the page, which took me quite some time. You can see I had to make a gradient with the colors to have it match more closely the raw (though now I think I could've done more):

However, the colors there were too plain, with no patterns, while the rest of the page (and the chapter) was all patterned (you can see the comparison here). And well, even if I know how to replace patterns, I wasn't sure how to make them adjust to the color below (not to mention I didn't have the actual patterns). So I asked Rue �who despite being a new cleaner, already had experience with patterns� to fix it... and the result really looks awesome, doesn't it?

Things that piss me off: Missing "Gandalf the White" theme

So this is my first post in a non-translation-&-scanlation blog. Fair enough, this blog is in a scanlation group's website, but I'm not using it to actually post translations and scanlations � just to actually blog.

Well, I'm a nerd for many things, including The Lord of the Rings. And well, a while ago I happened to find in a download page a link to �The Complete Recordings�, a complete soundtrack of the extended edition of all three movies (it doesn't have �every single note�, as the complete ST for Star Wars 1 claimed to have, but it's got a good deal of 'em). And well, I just felt curious and decided to download it. So long so good.

The only problem was that it was a long while since I had watched the movies (and I had watched the normal versions many times, but the extended versions not as much), so I couldn't match well every piece of music to every scene, and I decided to watch 'em again. There came the letdown.

I think I should have started watching the first movie from the beginning, but I just wanted to hear again my favorite pieces of music... So after some pieces in The Return of the King, I went to The Two Towers, to the part when the battle for Helm's Deep seems lost, but the dawn comes (�at dawn, look to the East�), and the �Gandalf the White� theme plays in full. But in the movie, instead, you hear the �Nature Reclamation� theme (the one played at the last march of the Ents).

To be honest, there is another instance of the �Gandalf the White� theme actually played in the movie, when Gandalf shows up for the first time in Fangorn Forest, but as pointed out here, those are 4 lines of lyrics, instead of the full 12.

As it seems, even in the first soundtrack for The Two Towers, this theme shows up in full in the track �Forth Eorlingas�, so the decision to change it came late in the production of the movie. Because of this, you can hear how a part of the �Nature Reclamation� theme gets replayed in the movie, because there was no time left to go back and lengthen it for that scene (as you can see here). As soon as I get hold of a video editing program and some time to spare, I'll try and make an edition of this scene with the �Gandalf the White� theme.

I'm reading the series and I like it. But in someway it makes me happy that Samurai school and Oumagadoki are ending, as it can means the RH pick a new series to fill the gap.
