Hello from New York!

Post by Alexander on Wed Jan 27, 2010 6:11 am

Hello! I'm pretty new to manga, have been reading the popular ones like Naruto and Bleach for awhile but just started reading others seriously(Found Kouji Seo and my grades all went downhill from there!) I started noticing that a lot of the good quality scans on the series that I like were from you guys so I decided to join your forum and start reading along :)

Bleach*
Naruto*
Ane Doki*** - COMPLETE
Dousei Recipe*

Reading mx0 and TWGOK now, then going to start on fairy tail and Black Cat sometime when schoolwork slows down. Gotta read James Joyce.. still can't figure out why I picked him as my author >_<

welcome to the forum Alexander, sorry for the late reply i forgot about this thread :P

i see you have pretty much the same taste as me, i read (or use to read) all that you listed except naruto and bleach.
dropped no bra early in the series, can't stand shounen-ai (i know akane-chan is shounen-ai as well but that's different that's kawashita mizuki :P)
also dropped kanokon, hated the main character and them furries.
bitter virgin last chapters i have them in my computer right now but just can't get myself to read them. too sad...

EDIT: btw, what are those asterisks for?

Re: Hello from New York!

Lol, those were the ratings I gave them for myself, although I read some of them awhile ago so dunno if I necessarily hold to those ratings.

Naruto and Bleach I started reading a long time ago.. before I had ever seen any other mangas.. because I was watching the anime (say 11 years old?) and now it's just a habit to go and read the newest.
I can't stand most shounen-ai, either, but No Bra is the exception. No Bra was the first manga that kept me up all night Very Happy I've tried others like Click.. can't get into them at all.. so it seems I'm still straight.
Kanokan is blehh. I read it during summer when I was bored, hehe.
Bitter Virgin was hard to get into, at least it was for me, but I liked it a lot when I got past the first volume, corny lines aside.

Any recommendations then? I've been looking for another Suzuka/Strawberry100%-type story(Ane Doki was close for me, if you just ignored the fact that it was basically describing pedophilia, sadly the evils of this world took that away from me.) Not really enjoying my current readings (Mx0 and TWGOK)

EDIT: Thanks for the welcome

have you read Love Hina?
because its like the best manga ever!!! and ermmm its also very ecchi lol Wink

We have very similar taste, I've either read or would read the mangas in your list except for PRINCES LUCIA, UNBALANCE X UNBALANCE, and TO LOVE RU.

I would also recommend peach girl if you are looking for drama, school rumble if you want a romantic comedy w/ a disappointing ending, or ouran high school host club if you want to laugh.

and I think I wanted to say something else but I forgot Shocked Shocked Shocked
anyhow I guess I'll post it whenever I remember peace peace peace

I've started Love Hina but I moved onto UnbalancexUnbalance quickly and haven't gotten around to finishing LH (Only read 1st chapter.) The 3 you mentioned are all good- Princess Lucia is short so far, TLR is ok but it has a lot of furry-type scenes so if you don't like those heh. UxU is the only manwha I've ever read and I love it so far

And thanks for the other recs, too. I've never heard of the first two so sweet Very Happy

Heh no worries :)

well, i suspect everyone on this forum would have similar taste in manga, though very different taste on the characters.

and i wouldn't call love hina the best manga ever. it was okay in the beginning, but got pretty repetitive. i've read love hina after ichigo 100%, and to me it almost felt like a deja-vu; albeit more fun, spontaneous, and less drama.

and as for recommendations:

- elfen lied (very gory and adult orientated, yet still manages to incorporate comedy and drama)
- scx, foolrulez, a-team (formerly kmts) scans.

besides you've already read some of their works,
e.g. kanokon from foolz, UxU from kmts, dousei from scx.

i'm sure beyond a doubt that you'd enjoy almost every work from those groups, except maybe NL from foolz XD.

I kinda have a quick question if any of you can answer it. Is there a big difference in the plot between the death note manga and anime besides the ending?

that said. I'm not a big fan of supernatural mangas, death note being one of my exceptions. so even though PL is by seujo and I love his mangas, I don't think I would like the storyline too much.

oh and zijian I see your point with LH, it did become repetitive, but once you get to ch 94 I think, it becomes a little less repetitive. anyhow I still think that's my fav manga. and Ichigo 100% came very close. and to me that one seemed more repetitive. and I also hated how he couldn't make up his mind for so long.

that's all I have to say for now

An ecchi-forum then? :P

I had started on elfen lied awhile ago because someone suggested it to me but I got roped back into doing a shit load of school work (like this week- goddamn all my teachers.) Been meaning to get back to that too. So many "get to" works

Dunno, jasa. I only watched the anime. DN is another "get to"

i agree with jasa2107, read school rumble and love hina, those two are like classics in the romance comedy genre.

some other recommendations:
I''s
Mahoraba, Manabiya, Wa! (all from the same author)
Parallel, Pastel (same author, same idea. i like parallel more though)
Orange Roof
Watashitachi no Tamura-kun
Toradora (kinda dropped the manga after watching the anime... maybe i'll continue to read it if ryuuji ends with ami :P)
Hayate no Gotoku
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora
Seto no Hanayome
Nagasarete Airantou
KimiKiss, Amagami (based on visual novels i think, same artist)
Good Ending (this is a classic in the making)
Nyan-koi
Mizuho Ambivalent
Seishun Pop
Let's Lagoon
Rappi Rangai
Kanojo wa Kannou Shousetsuka (dunno if this is romance but i can see it turning into one. a seinen btw)
Glass no Negami (this is basically hentai but with better story than some other normal manga)
KissXsis (perverted but fun to read)
Yandere Kanojo (4koma)
Takkoku (table tennis romance comedy manga from the same author as The Law of Ueki)
Oniichan Control
Zippy Ziggy

there's more but can't remember them atm. i read too much manga...
